Who's your daddy?

Our beloved, neurotic, and sometimes forgotten neglected pootch Ellie has always been a bit of a mystery. We got her from a shelter as a pup and her mom was a large pit bull type dog. Her dad was unknown. We get lots of comments, particularly from vets, that she is so cute and that her coloring is so interesting. So finally this Christmas my brother got us one of those breed DNA tests. So we swabbed Ellie's cheek and sent it off and waiting patiently for 6 weeks. Results... no primary breed (meaning she's not a pure bred or close to pure bred, no surprise). Her secondary breed (meaning the largest percentage of her) American Staffordshire Bull Terrier (one of the several pit bull breeds). And In the Mix (meaning has a trace or more amounts) of Doberman Pinscher and Rhodesian Ridgeback. TA DA! Obviously there is more in her, but the test only checks for 60 different breeds. And those are all larger dogs and Ellie is only 45 pounds, so some smaller type must be in there. So that's been our excitement of the week. Mike has been calling her "Ridgeback" all week. It certainly explains some of her bridle coloring and her strip of fur that those up along her spine when she's on alert. Clearly no one told Ellie she's a mix of some crazy aggressive breeds as Noah regularly beats her up, takes her bone, and tells her what to do!
