Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Wow, what a wonderful weekend!  The weather was fantastic here in the midwest.  On Friday we went to a local park in Schaumburg that has Heritage Farm.  People in period dress guide you around this small farm with cows, horses, pigs, and chickens and talk about farming back in the 1800's.  Pretty cool.  It was another sister wives type looking crew with 3 moms and 7 kids age 4 and under.  I think the pigs were the big hit here!

The Worst brothers joined us on Friday after the farm for an outdoor lunch.  Between the 4 growing monsters we went thru probably 10 slices of watermelon, 8 slices of canteloupe, and 4 portillo's hot dogs, 1 order of chicken tenders, 2 large fries, and 1 large milkshake.  I shudder to think of the teenage years and feeding this motley crew.
It was a special holiday weekend in that Mike was able to go with us up to the lakehouse!  The boys were happy to have daddy along, and I was happy to have my partner in parenting there.  My Uncle Dave recently got engaged to Deb and this is what their combined family looks like pretty awesome!
The boys were spoiled (shocker, I know) by everyone.  This weekend Apryl scored some superhero chairs at the dollar store and they were the HIGHLIGHT of the weekend.

Mike and I did the Mentos in Cola science experiment for the kids before dinner on the island.  It was pretty fun!

We celebrated May birthdays and added Noah in there since he hadn't celebrated with the Benhart group.  Cakes make Noah and Deb happy!
 Cousin Birthday Love!
Sam is so small I think the girls tend to over-mother him.  But he doesn't mind.  At one point someone was carrying him around and he was pointing which direction and saying "go there!"
The "who can find the most obnoxious gift" challenge continues to intensify.  Meg scored big points for the marshmallow gun she found for Noah.
Which was countered with my purchase of the mega blaster squirt gun of doom that promises to shoot over 70 feet for Addie.
Bringing back a tradition from Ione days, we started up a game of spoons.  Josh was the referee and dealer.  Somehow epic cheater outlaw Phil won.
It's important to pass these traditions of silverware related violence to the next generation.
Sam was NOT a fan of his lifejacket, but was a fan of riding on the boat.
I'm struck by what a BIG KID my Noah has become.  He can walk into the lake from the dock ladder alone now and is so thrilled he is tall enough to be above water.  He climbs on and off the boat all on his own and is ready for sleepovers with CJ!
When we got home, Mike wasted no time in cracking out that Marshmallow gun for Noah to try out.
 1 Word: Trouble
And what did Sam do, well the usual, stuff his face!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!  Looking forward to more summer fun to come!
